Vows Of A Cynic

Vows Of A Cynic is the song that encapsulates the core of the EP. It's about holding on to commitments to cynicism when we could simply let them go, be like a child again, being brave enough to smile in spite of how easy it is to be bitter and cynical.

One of my favourite artists is John Van Duesen and his song Whatever Makes You Mine became big inspiration for the song, hoping for it to have the same driving guitars and vocals driven by emotion but in no way sounding sad or bitter. Listen to his song below:

The first demo was sent to Dave with an aim to gather ideas, this initial demo can be heard below:

This demo was then re-recorded with some more solidified ideas when in the rehearsal room with Joel and Dave, including some chord changes and a new riff that Dave came up with. Listen below for that guide track:

From there we took the demo into the studio where we spent the day recording guitars and drums. With some additional recording being done in my home and other spaces for vocals, bass and electric. Below you can see Dave re-recording a solo that wasn't quite good enough from the studio session:

Two mixes were made, one was mixed on an SSL Duality, the other in the box, below you can here first the mix from the SSL (which had some strange panning to the left):

And then the mix from the box:

The Final mix and master from the in the box mix can be heard below:
